Every Steering Committee Member receives a "Blue Book" which outlines their duties for the convention. Each book contains guidelines to help make the committee member's job easier. This is the Welcome Letter found in each:
Whether you are a new member to the convention committee or an old timer your blue book will be an invaluable tool for your part in planning the SCV Convention.
In this book you will find the following documents:
1. Department’s monthly checklists
2. Final convention budget for said year
3. SCV Convention service manual
4. AA Guidelines to Conferences, Conventions and Roundups
As a steering committee member you have the added responsibility of familiarizing yourself with the service manual, making sure that you, as well as other members. adhere to the guidelines that have been set down.
One of the most important functions of the policies and guidelines, as they were originally established, was to minimize the amount of practical research for future committee members and allow them the time necessary to plan their convention. It was the founders desire to express their experience, strength and hope to insure that the Guidelines, By-laws, Mission Statement and Manual be followed as closely as possible.
Our mission statement clearly specifies that our primary purpose is to manage and organize an annual event known as The Santa Clarita Valley Convention of Alcoholics Anonymous. We also invite the Al-Anon Family Groups to participate at our convention with their own separate program.
While our special events have been set up to include “family” participation we must always be mindful that the meeting at our events is a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. We invite family members to stay but not to participate. An Al-Anon themed special event has been established as one of our fund raisers and is coordinated by the Al-Anon Chair and their committee.
We appreciate everyone’s service and commitment each year to support the convention and keep the dream alive.
PLEASE BRING YOUR BLUE BOOK TO EACH PLANNING AND STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING. IT IS OUR GUIDELINE TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS ON TRACK FOR THE PLANNING OF OUR CONVENTION.
